A Message From Supervisor Kate MurrayDear Friends, “Sandy” usually describes a beautiful ocean beachfront, but this summer “Sandy” takes on a whole different meaning as we rebound from the harrowing visit of an historic superstorm. Like so many homes and businesses, town parks and beaches were battered by the rains and winds of “Sandy.” But the summer sun will shine brightly on a parks system in rapid recovery and we look forward to hosting the annual migration of sun and fun seekers. Bowed but not broken, our beaches will open on schedule, Saturday, May 25. The Lido and Merrick Road Golf Courses are back in full “swing” and a full complement of refreshing town pools will open on June 15. Once again, the neighborhood concert series will be music to the ears of town audiences and kids will thrill to the antics of three acts in the Children’s Summer Festival. The Lacrosse Academy is back in session for boys and girls, ages 5 to 15 and many town parks offer season long recreation programs. “Sandy” changed a lot of travel plans this summer, and many of us will now consider a hometown vacation with plenty of visits to our beautiful parks and beaches. I hope all of our Hempstead Town residents enjoy a happy and healthy summer season and perhaps we’ll meet at a park’s event in the weeks ahead. Sincerely, Kate Murray |
