The Town of Hempstead is conducting road improvement projects in the communities listed below. All projects undertaken by the Town of Hempstead provide for maintaining access at all times. However, on some occasions, traffic interruption and temporary disuse of driveways cannot be avoided. In this respect, we appeal for patience, understanding and cooperation on the part of local residents.
South Merrick Area Phase I - Merrick
Project Area - A portion of Cynthia Lane, Lonni Lane, Bond Drive, Glenn Lane, Denton Drive and Camden Lane in Merrick.
Storm Water Drain and Road Improvement - The project includes improvements to storm drain system, construction of new concrete curbs, concrete driveway aprons, installation of pedestrian access ramps at all intersections, new asphalt pavement and the restoration of disturbed grass areas.
Project started in September 2007 and will be completed in Spring 2008.
Lehrer Avenue Phase II - Elmont
Project Area - A portion of Lehrer Avenue in Elmont.
Road Improvement - The project includes the construction of new curbs, driveway aprons, installation of pedestrian access ramps at all intersections, new asphalt pavement and the restoration of disturbed grass areas.
Project is scheduled to start in May 2008 and complete in July 2008.
Sherwood Drive- Andrea Road Area - East Meadow
Project Area - Sherwood Drive, Andrea Road, Flower Lane and Dieman Lane in East Meadow.
Road Improvement - The project includes the construction of new curbs, driveway aprons, installation of pedestrian access ramps at all intersections, new asphalt pavement and the restoration of disturbed grass areas.
Project is scheduled to start in July 2008 and be completed in August 2008.
Parker Avenue- Coleridge Street - Levittown
Project Area - Coleridge Street, Pope Street and Parker Avenue in Levittown.
Road Improvement - The project includes the construction of new curbs, driveway aprons, installation of pedestrian access ramps at all intersections, new asphalt pavement and the restoration of disturbed grass areas.
Project is scheduled to start in May 2008 and be completed in July 2008.
Lippold Street- Birch Street Area - Merrick
Project Area - Lippold Street, Chestnut Street, Ivanhoe Drive, Birch Street and Lilac Place in Merrick.
Road Improvement - The project includes the construction of new curbs, driveway aprons, installation of pedestrian access ramps at all intersections, new asphalt pavement and the restoration of disturbed grass areas.
Project is scheduled to start in March 2008 and be completed by the end of June 2008.
Sempton Blvd.- Fenworth Blvd. - Franklin Square
Project Area - Sempton Blvd. and a portion of Fenworth Blvd. in Franklin Square.
Road Improvement - The project includes installation of pedestrian access ramps at all intersections, new asphalt pavement and the restoration of disturbed grass areas. Project is scheduled to start in May 2008 and complete in July 2008.
Judith Court - Wantagh
Project Area - Judith Court in Wantagh
Road Improvement - The project includes the construction of new curbs, driveway aprons, installation of pedestrian access ramps at all intersections, new asphalt pavement and the restoration of disturbed grass areas.
Project is scheduled to start in April 2008 and complete in June 2008.
Anchor Road- Channel Road Area - Lido Beach
Project Area - A portion of Anchor Road, Channel Road, Daniel Drive, Gerry Avenue, Marginal Road, Neptune Road, Bay Lane and Sharen Drive in Lido Beach
Storm Water Drain and Road Improvement - The project includes the construction of new curbs, driveway aprons, installation of pedestrian access ramps at all intersections, new asphalt pavement and the restoration of disturbed grass areas.
Project is scheduled to start in April 2008 and be completed in July 2008.
Clinton Avenue Area - Uniondale
Project Area - Clinton Avenue, a portion of Linwood Street and a portion of Newton Avenue in Uniondale.
Road Improvement - The project includes the installation of pedestrian access ramps at all intersections, new asphalt pavement, replacement of curbing as needed and the restoration of disturbed grass areas. If affected, driveway aprons will be replaced in the same location and size, as they currently exist. If you require a larger and/or an additional apron, you must obtain a permit from the Town of Hempstead Highway Department. Permits for aprons will not be issued by the Highway Department after construction has commenced for this project. Please be advised that you are responsible for the construction of the new apron, the town contractor will only drop the curb cut where your permit indicates.
Project is scheduled to start in April 2008 and be completed in June 2008.
Guildford Park Area Phase I - Seaford
Project Area - Guildford Park Road, a portion of Locust Avenue and Bit Path in Seaford.
Road Improvement - The project includes the construction of new curbs, driveway aprons, installation of pedestrian access ramps at all intersections, new asphalt pavement and the restoration of disturbed grass areas.
Project is scheduled to start in March 2008 and be completed in July 2008.
Saratoga Street - Lido Beach
Project Area - Saratoga Street in Lido Beach.
Road Improvement - The project includes the construction of new curbs, driveway aprons, installation of pedestrian access ramps at all intersections, new asphalt pavement and the restoration of disturbed grass areas.
Project is scheduled to start in April 2008 and be completed in June 2008.
Station Plaza - Hewlett Plaza Area - Woodmere
Project Area - Hewlett Plaza in Woodmere
Storm Water Drain and Road Improvement - The project includes the construction of new curbs, driveway aprons, installation of pedestrian access ramps at all intersections, sidewalks, lighting, new asphalt pavement and the restoration of disturbed grass areas.
Project is scheduled to start in April 2008 and be completed in June 2008.
Oakfield Avenue - North Bellmore
Project Area - A portion of Oakfield Avenue between North Jerusalem Avenue and the Southern State Parkway overpass in North Bellmore.
Road Improvement - The project includes the construction of new curbs, driveway aprons, installation of pedestrian access ramps at all intersections, new asphalt pavement and the restoration of disturbed grass areas.
Project is scheduled to start in May 2008 and be completed in September 2008.
Bedford Avenue- Remsen Street Area - Elmont
Project Area - Bedford Avenue, Court Street, Melrose Street, Remsen Street, Grand Street, Clinton Street in Elmont
Storm Water Drain and Road Improvement - The project includes the construction of new concrete curbs, concrete driveway aprons, installation of pedestrian access ramps at all intersections, improvements to the storm drain system, new asphalt pavement and the restoration of disturbed grass areas.
Project is underway and is scheduled to be completed in June 2008.
