Seniors Present Works From The Creative Writers' Workshop

Hempstead Town Supervisor Kate Murray has announced that members of the Department of Senior Enrichment’s Creative Writers’ Workshop are holding a reading of their original works on Wednesday, June 13 at the Merrick Theatre and Center of the Arts.

“This forum provides an opportunity for the talented writers who have participated in the Hempstead Town’s Creative Writers’ Workshop to share their compositions with the community,” said Supervisor Murray.

The presentation will be held at 1 p.m. at the Merrick Theatre and Center of the Arts, located at 2222 Hewlett Avenue in Merrick.  The public is invited to attend the annual event and admission is free. The readings will be followed by an informal coffee hour.  The short stories, poems and memoirs produced by seniors in workshop sessions will be published by the town this fall in an annual compilation entitled “Musings of Maturity XXIV.”

“The Creative Writer’s Workshop is one of many excellent programs offered to senior residents through our Department of Senior Enrichment,” stated Senior Councilman Anthony Santino.  “In this 16-week workshop, participants are encouraged to develop their artistic abilities.”

“The Creative Writers’ Workshop, held at the town’s Merrick Senior Center, continues to inspire those individuals who wish to fulfill a lifelong ambition to write,” concluded Murray.  “I hope area residents will lend their support and join us on June 13 for this creative presentation.”

The Creative Writers’ Workshop is partially funded through a grant from Poets and Writers, Inc.  The Merrick Theatre and Center of the Arts generously donates the use of its facility.
