Supervisor Kate Murray and Hempstead Town are getting revved up for the seventh annual Seaside Spectacular Car Show, which is set to fire on all cylinders and will be open to spectators on Saturday, September 15, 2012 from 12-4 p.m. (display cars must arrive/be checked in between 10 a.m. and 12 p.m.) Hundreds of vintage cars are expected to cruise into Town Park Point Lookout for the high-octane event.
“On September 15th, car enthusiasts and spectators alike will take a ‘drive’ down memory lane as we celebrate vehicles of the past,” stated Murray. “I encourage all of our vintage car collectors with vehicles 1987 and older to register early and come join us for a day of fun and a chance to win great prizes.”
First, second and third-place award plaques, provided by Merrick Dodge, will be presented to car owners in 15 different categories, with the car show participants judging classics, American and foreign models and best of various time periods. There will also be an award for Best in Show. Dashboard plaques, provided by Merrick Collision and Towing, will be given to the first 400 cars checking in on September 15.
Murray will also pay tribute to the late Arnie Levey, an avid car collector, a car racing champion and one of the founders of the town’s car show. One of his classic cars will be on display in his honor.
“Arnie Levey always said that some of his best days were spent at the car show down at Town Park Point Lookout, interacting with fellow car collectors whom he considered his good friends,” said Murray. “Arnie is greatly missed by everyone in the town family, and we will surely be thinking of him at this year’s event.”
The town thanks Merrick Collision & Towing and Merrick Dodge, Jeep, Chrysler and Ram of Wantagh for sponsoring this year’s car show.
In addition to the stunning selection of unique cars, a special group of premier exhibitors will showcase unique vehicles. The Autoseum in Mineola will provide famous movie and television vehicles. A special exhibit of Cobras and other hot rods from H.R.E. Motor Cars of Freeport will be featured, as well as a special presentation of unique motorcycles, courtesy of the Nettesheim Museum. The premier displays will be provided by H.R.E. Motorcars of Freeport, the Nettesheim Museum and the Autoseum of Mineola. B-103 Radio (media sponsor) and a live band will provide musical entertainment throughout the day.
The Seaside Spectacular is open to cars with model years of 1987 and older. The pre-registration deadline has passed, but car owners may also register between 10 a.m. and noon on the day of the event (entry fee is $10). The raindate for the car show is on Sunday, September 16th. For more information, call the town’s Office of Communications at (516) 812-3496 or visit the town’s website at toh.li.
There is no charge for spectators, and parking is free. All attendees can enjoy snacks, beverages and ice cream, which will be available for purchase during the event.
“Ladies and gentlemen, get ready to start your engines and drive on down to the seventh annual Seaside Spectacular Car Show on September 15th,” concluded Murray. “We are looking forward to a great event down at Point Lookout.”
