Councilman Santino, Mayor Lenahan, Assemblyman Curran to Hold East Rockaway Meeting to Assist Sandy Victims on December 12th

Hempstead Town Senior Councilman Anthony Santino, along with Village of East Rockaway Mayor Fran Lenahan and New York State Assemblyman Brian Curran, will host an East Rockaway Town Hall Meeting to help residents still reeling in the aftermath of Hurricane Sandy. During the meeting – being held on Wednesday, December 12, 2012 at 7:30 p.m. at East Rockaway Village Hall (376 Atlantic Avenue) – Councilman Santino will detail what actions the town has taken to help neighbors recover from the devastating storm.

“As a resident of East Rockaway, I have seen, firsthand, the damage suffered by homes, businesses, schools, and the continuing struggles faced by our neighbors,” stated Santino. “At this Town Hall meeting, residents can learn what the Town of Hempstead, Village of East Rockaway and New York State are doing to help those people affected by Hurricane Sandy.”

Councilman Santino will be joined by the Town of Hempstead Building Department, which will be on hand to answer questions and explain how the town has expedited its permitting process to help residents repair their homes. This includes waiving building permit fees for “in-kind” reconstruction and replacement of Sandy-damaged homes, as well as eliminating a town requirement that homeowners obtain a variance prior to increasing their home’s foundation height to comply with FEMA flood height guidelines. Also, permit fees are waived for homeowners using a temporary trailer during construction.

Santino is inviting all residents affected by the hurricane to attend the East Rockaway Town Hall Meeting on December 12.

“I would like to thank New York State Assemblyman Brian Curran and East Rockaway Mayor Fran Lenahan for helping to organize this important Town Hall Meeting for the victims of Hurricane Sandy,” concluded Santino. “I encourage all local residents to attend to find out what assistance is available to them during this difficult time.”
