Helping to curb the population of feral cats in Hempstead Town, the town Animal Shelter will host a free Trap/Neuter/Return Day on Monday, February 18, 2013. The Animal Shelter will perform up to 30 free spay/neuter surgeries on feral cats trapped and transported to the shelter by residents.
“On Presidents’ Day, Monday, February 18, the Hempstead Town’s Animal Shelter will be providing free spay/neuter surgeries for thirty feral cats in an effort to help reduce the stray cat population in Hempstead Town,” said Animal Shelter Director Cynthia Iacopella.
Feral cats brought to the shelter on this date will also receive a Rabies vaccine, a 5-in-1 (FVRCP) vaccine, 30-day flea control and mandatory left ear tipping. Appointments must be made in advance and will be scheduled on a first-come, first-serve basis. To schedule an appointment, please contact the Animal Shelter’s TNR Coordinator, Steven Reichert, at or (516) 785-5220, ext. 4630.
Residents should also ask the TNR Coordinator for detailed information on admission and discharge of spayed and neutered cats, transportation precautions for cats being brought to and from the shelter.
“I urge all interested caretakers to take advantage of this convenient opportunity to have feral cats under their care spayed and neutered free of charge,” concluded Iacopella.
