Traffic Control & Street Lighting Divisions

The town's Traffic Control Division is responsible for the manufacture, installation and maintenance of approximately 375,000 street name and traffic control signs on town roadways, and ensures compliance with current standards. The Street Lighting Division is responsible for the installation, maintenance and inspection of approximately 50,000 street lighting units located on town roadways.
Street Light Outage
In the event that a street light is out, contact the Town of Hempstead Street Lighting Division at (516) 378-2260 during regular business hours. You will need to give the exact location of the pole, and, if available, the pole number.
Street Light Pole Down
A downed light pole can pose serious problems because the wires leading to the light are energized. DO NOT ATTEMPT TO MOVE THE POLE. Contact the Town of Hempstead Traffic Control Division at (516) 378-2260 during regular business hours. After hours, contact the Department of Public Safety at (516) 538-1900.
Missing Street Signage
To report missing or damaged street signage on a town roadway, please contact the Division of Traffic Control at (516) 378-2260 during regular business hours. After hours, contact the Department of Public Safety at (516) 538-1900.
Traffic Signal Light Problems
The Town of Hempstead DOES NOT install or maintain traffic signal lights. To report a problem with a traffic signal light on a Nassau County maintained roadway, contact the Nassau County Department of Public Works at (516) 571-9600. To report problems with traffic signal lights on New York State maintained roadways, contact the New York State Department of Transportation INFORM at (631) 904-3050.
